Good day, triathletes and supporters.
July marked the close of one of triathlon’s defining careers. Dame Flora Duffy announced her retirement after more than two decades at the highest level, while Bermuda’s next generation kept delivering on the world stage, from World Cup podiums to Flatland Cup juniors and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship qualifiers.

July marked the close of one of triathlon’s defining careers. Dame Flora Duffy announced her retirement after more than two decades at the highest level, leaving Bermuda an extraordinary record of medals, firsts and belief in what an athlete from a small island can achieve.
Flora’s example helped widen the path now followed by Tyler Smith, Erica Hawley and Nicholas Pilgrim, and by the juniors who pull on Bermuda colours each season. Her impact is measured not only in titles, but in the ambition she made normal.

Elite and under-23 athletes delivered four noteworthy international results in July.
World Triathlon Cup · 1:00:23
Erica Hawley: sixth in Edmonton
Hawley finished just seven seconds from the podium after a composed sprint-distance performance. A strong swim and aggressive opening bike lap put her in the first chase group before a controlled 5km run.
Smith secured another international top ten in Antofagasta. He stayed connected through a choppy 1.5km swim, helped close the gap on the bike and produced a 31:37 run, his fastest 10km off the bike.
Pilgrim shared the Antofagasta start line with Smith and finished 25th in the under-23 men. The result followed his encouraging 17th-place elite finish in Montreal at the end of June.
Hayward’s first elite World Triathlon start featured a 29:33 bike split and a spell leading into T2. The 18-year-old finished 32nd of 52, gaining another important step on the junior-to-elite pathway.

Six of Bermuda’s nine athletes achieved top-20 finishes.
In Canada, Iris Duda placed second in the under-13 girls and Isla Cooze finished eleventh in the under-15 girls.
Kelise Wade wins Philadelphia Super Sprint
31:30 · Female 16–19
Wade won the women’s event and finished first overall in the 152-athlete field. She recorded 0:47 for the swim, 12:44 on the bike and 15:09 on the run.
Geoff Smith won M60–64 in 5:04:39 and Kristen Robinson won F40–44 in 5:05:52. Mark Robinson produced strong swim and bike legs before an Achilles injury ended his race about 4km into the run. Gareth Yeomans finished in 6:36:56 wearing Bermuda’s distinctive pink kit.
Vivienne Lochhead and Michael Evans have officially qualified for the 2027 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Evans earned his place after finishing fourth in M35–39 at IRONMAN 70.3 Musselman in 4:23:59. Georgia Evans finished 9th in F30–34 in 5:29:06, and Nick Greet was 26th in M60–64 in 6:30:02.

July belonged to Flora’s farewell and to the athletes already carrying her example forward, from World Cup and continental racing to Flatland Cup juniors, Thursday night supersprints and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship qualifiers.
